Updated FAQ and Advocacy Tool Debunking Federal Voucher Scheme Now Available!

Last month, Education Law Center’s Public Funds Public Schools campaign released a two-page Advocacy Tool and a Frequently Asked Questions guide providing information about the federal education voucher program in the budget reconciliation bill, including the attendant harms of vouchers and the many reasons states must opt out of this voucher scheme to protect public education.

We gratefully received your feedback and inquiries about these resources and have updated the documents to reflect better understanding:

States Must Reject Harmful Federal Voucher Program: Two-Page Advocacy Tool

Federal Voucher Program – FAQs

We also acknowledge that many questions about the voucher program will remain unanswered until federal regulations are released. We’ll continue to update both resources as more information becomes available.

As a reminder, the federal voucher program diverts federal tax dollars from the U.S. Treasury, providing a one-to-one tax credit to individuals who make donations up to $1700 to organizations that pass out vouchers for use at private and religious schools and for other private education expenses. Public school students are currently eligible for services such as tutoring, but until federal regulations for this voucher program are released by the U.S. Treasury Department, there’s no telling how restrictive and anti-public education this scheme will turn out to be.

Additionally, the federal voucher program is not a done deal; governors must opt in if their state is going to take part in this tax credit scheme. The FAQ and the advocacy tool are designed to assist public education supporters as they convince their governors to Just Say NO to federal vouchers.

Support public funds for public schools – Don’t allow harmful federal vouchers into your state!
