To create the Students with Unique Needs (SUN) Education Scholarship Account Act and Program

Description

PFPS Summary: AL HB334 creates a new ESA voucher program commencing in the 2024-25 school year. The voucher amount is equal to 95 percent of gross state per-pupil funding. To be eligible, a student must be under 19 years of age, have attended a public K-12 school in the state in the prior school year, and be one of the following: the child of a parent who is a member of the Armed Forces, a student with a disability, a foster child, or homeless. Qualifying expenses include, among other things, tuition and fees at participating nonpublic schools, textbooks, private tutoring, online learning, and education services for students with disabilities. The program starts with 500 students in its first year and then adds 500 additional students each school year thereafter.
