Join PFPS for Our New Webinar: Schoolhouse Burning: Public Education and the Assault on American Democracy

On Tuesday, October 6, at 3 p.m. EST, Public Funds Public Schools will host the fifth installment in a series of webinars on private school vouchers and PFPS’s goal of ensuring public funds are used to maintain, support, and strengthen public schools.

The PFPS webinar will feature Derek Black, Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina, who has extensive expertise in constitutional law, education law and policy, and civil rights. He also has substantial experience in education rights litigation, working at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law prior to teaching.

Professor Black will discuss his newest book, Schoolhouse Burning: Public Education and the Assault on American Democracy, with Education Law Center Executive Director David Sciarra.

The discussion will explore the history of the right to education, its role in promoting our democratic values, and its importance in times of fiscal uncertainty and expanding gaps in educational opportunity. Professor Black will also explain the threat posed to public education and American democracy by vouchers and other school privatization measures.
