Title

Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Act; prior school year requirement; revise

Description

PFPS Summary: GA SB386 would let more students use a pre-existing, taxpayer-funded private school scholarship program. It expands the eligibility criteria to include students who lack an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) but have a diagnosis from a licensed physician or psychologist or a Section 504 education plan under the federal Rehabilitation Act. The bill also includes revisions to the prior school year requirement, revisions to the basis for caclulating scholarship amounts, and a requirement to conduct annual parent surveys and create complaint procedures for scholarship calculations. For students with IEPs, the calculation of scholarship amounts would be based on the services specified in the Individualized Education Program.
