FL H7045 - School Choice

Description

PFPS Summary: HB 7045 reorganizes and consolidates Florida’s existing voucher programs, and reduces the number of programs from five to two. Eligibility for the taxpayer-funded Family Empowerment Scholarship voucher program is expanded to students with disabilities and the income requirement is expanded to students with household incomes below 375% of the poverty line. The bill includes caps on the number of vouchers available to students by category and increases the caps by 1% each year. Income eligibility for Florida's tax credit voucher is also expanded under the bill to students with household income is below 375% of the poverty line, up from 260%. The bill also changes funding mechanisms and requirements for voucher organizations. HB 7045 also expands acceptable usage of vouchers to include technology and internet services.
