Title

Enacting the Kansas hope scholarship act.

Description

Establishes the "Kansas hope scholarship fund" for students who have reported an incident of bullying to a teacher, counselor or administrator. Under the scholarship program, an eligible student will have an account established in his or her name and the treasurer will transfer between 88 and 96% (depending on the student's grade in school) of the BASE aid to that account. Funds may be used for tuition and fees charged by a private school, textbooks and other required supplies, and transportation fees. The bill provides for annual audits of scholarship accounts, an application process for private schools to be deemed "qualified," and random audits of qualified private schools.
